Chicago Winter Engagement Photos | The Pearl Club & Rookery

Winter sessions have a way of feeling extra cozy, and often end up being some of the most creative. Instead of wandering, we head indoors, finding spaces that feel meaningful or a little more special.

For Brie and Thomas, that meant starting at The Pearl Club, which they privately booked for the afternoon. Walking into an empty bar in the middle of the day is kind of a dream—no crowd, no waiting, no pressure—just the two of them settling in together.

We kept things simple at first, letting it unfold naturally. A drink at the bar, a quiet laugh, leaning into each other a bit, and slowly getting comfortable. The space did a lot of the heavy lifting, with its low light, warm tones, and that moody, slightly European feel they’ve always been drawn to.

From there, we made our way to The Rookery.

It’s one of those places that always works—the staircase, the light, the scale of it—and it somehow manages to feel grand without being overwhelming. While we were there, we leaned into both sides of their vision. Some frames stayed darker and more dramatic, while others softened into something brighter and more romantic, which will pair beautifully with their wedding in Scotland.

Afterward, we stepped outside and let things loosen up a bit as we moved through the Financial District. The streets were quiet, the architecture felt strong and classic, and that soft winter light tied everything together.

They met downtown, built a life here, and got engaged along the river after a stay at The Langham. So ending the session in this part of the city felt easy and right—walking, staying close, and not overthinking it.

Before the session, they told me, “It’s us against the world.” And in a quiet, steady way, that’s exactly what it felt like.
