• Nikon Coolpix, Canon Powershot and Y2K Cameras: Retro-style cameras are making a big comeback. They deliver unique results that stand out from smartphone photos. I grew up using these and I’m so happy they are becoming popular again. The quality is WAY better than our phones and you have the option of using a quality flash for a more crisp image. I’m SO happy that people are using these again!
  
  
• Fujifilm x100VI: A perfect starter camera for hobbyists. It allows manual settings while offering high-quality photos without too much complexity. This is my go-to personal camera – although mine is the older version which is the Fujifilm x100t which I believe you can only buy used. I’ll be honest – when I travel, I don’t always want to lug around my heavy, expensive gear. I love shooting with this camera and the best part is it only weighs about 1lb which makes it so portable. It’s SO fun to shoot with the the image quality is incredible. Worth every penny!

For the Content Creator Wannabe

Content creators rely on steady footage and clean visuals for their platforms. These tools help level up their content.

• Gimbal: This essential tool ensures smooth, stabilized videos with professional quality. I recently purchased the DJI OM 5 and am obsessed. I’ve personally been using it to help create behind the scenes content for my shoots and to help create cute little videos for my clients. It’s very easy and intuitive to use and the quality is awesome!
  
  
• Ring Light: A ring light provides consistent and flattering lighting, especially for indoor shoots or live streams.

For Vintage/Retro Lovers

I’ve started a little collection and currently have a Minolta x700 but am dreaming about someday buying the Contax T2. When photographers start moving toward a career, investing in gear pays off. These tools offer the quality and inspiration they need.

• 50mm Lens: An affordable, versatile lens ideal for portraits and low-light shots. In my opinion, every photographer should own some version of this lens. It’s been my favorite throughout my entire 17+ year career. There’s no zoom so it forces you to move around and train your eye to see from different perspectives. I personally use the Canon RF50mm 1.2 lens because the sharpness and clarity to the images is unlike any other I’ve used. That being said, if you are just getting started, any entry-level 50mm lens is a great choice! We call these the “Nifty 50”. If you shoot Canon, you can find the RF mount here (for about $200) and the EF mount here (about $125).
  
  
• Canon R5 & R6: These mirrorless cameras deliver incredible image quality and advanced autofocus. I personally shoot with these camera bodies and love them! That being said, any professional grade DSLR will do if you prefer Nikon, Fuji, Sony, etc.
  
  
• 28-70mm RF Canon Lens: A premium zoom lens that produces sharp, consistent results. The Canon RF version of this lens is pure MAGIC. I use it for EVERYTHING. It can be a bit of an investment but it’s a very versatile lens that can be used for just about anything.
  
  
• Elizabeth Messina Book “The Luminous Portrait”: A beautiful book full of photography inspiration and creative ideas. Elizabeth Messina is an ICON and I’ve had the pleasure of joining one of her workshops. I’ve had this book for years and I still look through it all the time to feel inspired.
  
  
• John Dolan “The Perfect Imperfect” Book: Any wedding photographer would LOVE receiving this book as a gift. John Dolan is a legend. I have this book on my coffee table at all times.
  
  
• Camera Backpack: I’ve been dreaming about owning this Ona leather backpack for years… hint hint if anyone is looking for a gift for me personally. Ona is one of the best and while this bag may seem like an investment it should last forever.
  
  
• Camera Messenger Bag: This has been my go-to camera bag for at least a decade. I use this for portrait sessions and as an additional bag to have on the wedding day. It’s big enough for a camera body and 2 lenses and the impeccable craftsmanship should last you forever.

For the Established Pro

Professional photographers already have cameras and lenses, so practical tools make the best gifts. These options simplify their workflow and improve results.

• Multicard Reader: This tool allows photographers to transfer files quickly from various media cards. I LOVE this one. The images from my SD cards upload with lightning speed.
  
  
• External Solid State Drive (SSD): Compact and reliable, an SSD provides fast storage for saving the many thousands of images we take in a given year. I’ve been using the Samsung T9 and it has revolutionized my editing workflow. It’s SO fast and helps me work as efficiently as possible.
  
  
• Profit First by Mike Michalowicz: This may sound dramatic but this book changed my life. I’m not kidding. It helps teach photographers how to run a profitable and sustainable business.
  
  
• Film: If the photographer in your life shoots film, they can never have enough! Kodak Portra 400 is my personal go to for color and for black and white I love Kodak T-Max 400 and Ilford HP5.
