Some sessions just stay with you, and this one was definitely one of them.
D booked her boudoir session as a way to celebrate two big milestones: turning 40 and getting married. It was such an honor to be the one to help her mark both with something that felt joyful, intentional and completely her.
We met that morning at The Ambassador in Chicago’s Gold Coast. I greeted her in the lobby and brought her up to our beautiful, light-filled suite. After settling in, we went through her wardrobe together (I immediately fell in love with the sheer robe she packed last-minute and her delicate wedding veil—both ended up being total favorites). Then she hopped in the makeup chair with the amazing Torie Conn, who created a soft, romantic look while chatting and easing her into the experience.
From there, we had such a fun shoot. We played with light, texture, and movement, using the soft morning sun, silky sheets, and little in-between moments to create something that felt both effortless and elegant.
Here’s what she shared after seeing her photos for the first time:
“I believe the first word out of my mouth was ‘wow.’ After a few weeks of waiting, it was so fun to see the memories come to life. It brought me back to the shoot day and the fun I had with Ashley. I felt so glad I did this—and that I made the right decision in choosing her.”
She told me she was a little unsure about outfits at first, especially since she’d never done anything like this before. But as soon as we got going, she was completely in her element, calm, confident and glowing.
“Ashley was warm and welcoming from the start. The hotel room felt private and inviting, and the overall atmosphere was so calming. It just felt fun!”
Sessions like this are why I love what I do! D trusted me with such a meaningful experience, and I’m beyond grateful to have been a part of it. Happy 40th, D—and congratulations on your upcoming wedding. What a beautiful way to celebrate it all.
If you’re dreaming up a session of your own, whether to celebrate a milestone, a marriage or simply yourself, I’d love to help bring it to life.
