An engagement session is a great opportunity to practice posing in front of the camera before the wedding day. The engagement session is a chance for us to get to know each other better and for you to experience how I work from behind the lens.
But it’s not just about practice! Taking engagement photos is a fun experience. During the shoot, we’ll visit meaningful, scenic locations and capture your personalities and relationship. I promise I won’t make you pose in some stiff, awkward way for hours. My favorite photos are candid and in-the-moment. I’ll keep you moving, dancing, running, laughing, and smiling the whole way through.

I offer a variety of Chicago engagement session package options to suit your needs. Package options typically range between $600-$1,200. I require the payment-in-full to book your session and reserve your date on the calendar. Custom payment options and packages can be available upon request.
Any season of your choice! Summer and fall have the best weather in Chicago.
For best lighting, I recommend scheduling either at sunrise or a few hours before sunset.
Because I photograph weddings on the weekends, I typically schedule
Where do you feel most at home together?
What parts of your personalities would you like to shine?
Is there a story you’d like these photos to tell?
Do you have an overall style or vision in mind?
What do you envision wearing?
I love designing creative plans for my client’s engagement photos to make sure their photos are a reflection of them. At least a month before your session, we’ll chat through your vision for your photos. I may ask you questions like:
After that conversation, I’ll create a suggested plan for your Chicago engagement session that will include location and styling ideas, transportation logistics, outfit changing locations, and buffer time for traffic and parking if needed. We’ll review the plan and modify as needed until it's perfect for you.
“When being professionally photographed, you need to be sure you are wearing the proper amount of makeup in order for it to actually be visible on camera. Your everyday application may not be enough. A professional makeup artist knows how to achieve this look using specific techniques to enhance your natural beauty and create a flawless look that will show up beautifully on camera.”
I always recommend that my brides book a professional hair and makeup appointment for their session. Here are a few words from one of my Chicago industry favorites, Joanna B Artistry:
Your outfits should complement one another, but not match exactly. For example: If one of you wears a bolder color, then the other could wear something more neutral to create harmony and balance. Keep in mind the locations you have selected for your portrait session. Avoid wearing colors that will blend in or clash with your surroundings. You want to be the focal point of your photographs. Consider colors that flatter your skin tone and hair best. What hues make you feel the most beautiful? Lastly, if you are bringing props and accessories to your shoot, be sure to coordinate the colors of these details with your outfits so everything flows together.
I *LOVE* Nordstrom’s Trunk Club Service and highly recommend them to my clients for engagement session styling. If you sign up with my referral link below, you’ll automatically receive $50 towards your first purchase!
All the planning is done, and we’re finally ready to take photos! First and foremost, be sure to arrive on time to your engagement session. Most of my clients will do multiple locations and outfit changes, so time is of the essence to make sure we can make your photo dreams come true.
Once we begin, I will coach you through every step of the way. You don’t need to bring a list of poses or ideas with you (in fact, I prefer that you don’t). When you look at your photos later, I want you to see YOU. Nothing will feel stiff, formal or uncomfortable. I will guide you into poses that feel natural and organic and allow laughter, silliness and fun. Yes, I’ll ask you to smile at the camera occasionally, but for the most part I’ll be capturing your love in a real, candid way.
About 2-4 weeks after your engagement session, we’ll have your Photo Reveal appointment where you’ll see your engagement photos for the first time. My clients receive approximately 125 finished photos. You'll view a personalized slideshow, featuring my absolute favorites from your session. Afterwards, we’ll review the complete collection and discuss prints and products you’d like to order.
