If you’ve never explored Chicago’s lakefront in the winter time, you have been missing out. During the months of January and February, Lake Michigan transforms into an icy masterpiece.
You would never guess by the almost glacier-looking first photo, but we were standing on top of a pedestrian walkway that had been completely coated in snow and ice. The ice blocks off in the water look as if they go on in Lake Michigan forever. This setting plus the incredible sunset have made for some of my favorite engagement photos ever.
Mallory and John almost didn’t make it to the lakefront for the end of their shoot. It was cold and windy and they had originally been hoping for overcast skies for a moodier, coastal Ireland look (the two will be having a destination wedding in Ireland later this year). Even though I know it wasn’t what they were originally envisioning, I’m so glad they gave it a chance. It was such a one-of-a-kind winter Chicago evening.
Thank you again, Mallory and John! I loved working with you.
